Tattletale Tuesday

My first Tattletale Tuesday! Remember, the pugs have their own room. A big screen TV. Toys. A bed. Blankets. Animal Planet. Is that enough?

Apparently not...

This is what they've done to our floors in "their" room over the past year. Thanks, puggies.

Additionally- Brian gets back tomorrow! And I CANNOT wait!!!! I just had to call him since Sophie threw up twice in a row. There went all her dinner... she had barely chewed it, if at all. I am now 100% sure she needs one of the bowls that slows her eating. My question to you all though- should I switch to regular sized food bites? They're currently eating small bites, the bits are about the size of a pencil eraser. I think that in any bowl, she might just swallow them because they're so small. However, do you think she'll swallow big ones? I don't think so but I wanted everyone's insight about it. It's not a problem to switch to "normal size" kibble bits because the brand and flavor they use comes in both sizes.

OhhhhhhhhMG! That FLOOR!!!

I read somewhere not to waste money on one of those bowls, but stick some golf balls in there to slow her down.

Salinger chokes on the big normal sized pieces, but that might have something to do with the fact that he's so ridiculously pampered that I think he's half expecting me to digest his food for him too.

Good luck...let us know!

I scarf down my food until my Mommy got bigger kibbles, I have to take the time to chew them. Also the bowl is a waste of money, Mommy puts things in my bowl like round bones and my racket ball, try a cup as well. If none of those work then get the bowl. You know what I think my kibbles are about the size of an eraser...but my food has dried veggies in it too. maybe the veggies slow me down as well as the random objects mom throws in my bowl.

Your poor floor! I bet they had fun doing that!

As for the food, Pearl eats REALLY slowly. She has the bigger sized kibbles and she literally chews them up one by one. It's almost enough to put me to sleep! Don't be confused, though, into thinking she eats less. She is still QUITE a chunk!

I would definitely try Sophie out on the bigger ones and see how she does. I don't think she'll swallow them whole.

I have something to add too. My vet was telling me that bigger kibbles are a good idea for pugs (since they are prone to having problems with their teeth as they age) - the big kibbles apparently scrape against their teeth and helps keep them healthy (along with brushing). Hope you can find a solution!

I buy them the regular dog sized kibble from Beneful and they have no problem eating it. They do have to chew the peices for a few minutes in their mouth first, breaking them up, though...so it totally slows them down! Sometimes, when I feel like giving them a treat, I'll warm up some beef broth and put it over it. They LOOOOOOOOVE that.

Oh no!! The floor!!

Umm Gus wolfs his food down, we just switched to a smaller kibble though. Indy doesn't need to spend as much time chewing (well that hasn't been an issue for the last 2 months) but I am finding less puking with the smaller kibble...

Lucky and I inhale our food, but we don't toss it back up unless we are not feeling well, so we can't help you with your problem. As for the floor, you poor guys. I do that to the doors. ha ha. Mom says doors are easier to fix.

we are pretty methodical with our chewing so I don't really know how to advise you. Tanner is a FREAK when he drinks water tho, then barfs it back up. They make a slow down drinking water bowl too, Mom is thinking of getting one.

Eek, the floor! What lucky dogs to have their own room, though!

Anyhoo, like everyone else said, I suggest not wasting money on the bowl, but you could put random pieces of food (veggies, chicken) in there to slow it down. However, moving up to the bigger pieces probably would do good without any harm.

Good luck!

Before you invest in the bowl or switch the food, you might wanna sit down with Sophie and have an open discussion to make sure she's not bulimic.
My cat brother Nick used to scarf & barf his food all the time until Mama helped him to have a better body image. The other cats were calling him a lard-ass...okay, I was too, but Mama gave us all holly hell and told us to knock it off, so now he thinks he's hot crap and struts around like some chubby lothario, but at least he's not puking anymore. Just a thought...

My mom uses a cookie sheet with sides on it and spreads my food out. It has slowed me down and seems to entertain the humans.

we used a hard rubber ball in ollie's dish for awhile, it seemed to help. it was about tennis ball size. they all snorf up the food no matter the size of the kibbies. but we might have to try otis's method some day for human amusement.

yes, we switched from the "wee bit" solid gold food which was tiny eraser sized kibbles to the regular "hundenflocken' adult larger kibble solid gold and they eat it much slower, don't choke on it as much, and also they were pooping less and pooping more solid poops. (The less they are pooping, the better they are digesting it and getting more nutrients, etc).
I definitely suggest going to the larger kibble. Clementine has an issue with eating too fast and gagging it up, so now we "hand feed" her - so we drop a few kibbles in her bowl, wait for her to completely chew and swallow it, then add a few more kibbles, and again and again until she's done with her half cup meal. It takes a while but I've noticed a significant difference in her poops and her eating anxiety.

I would concur that the bigger kibble/regular size is the way to go. I get regular size kibble although it still really doesn't slow me down a whole lot. Those ideas with the balls, cups etc. in the dish are very interesting. Maybe Mom and Dad will try that with me too XOXO Peanut

Mmm, Pepe's kennel is in the kitchen and she's started to scratch on the door & frame when she'd like to come out. We rent our flat so damage to anything is bad :(
