Midnight Madness

Well, more like 2:00 am - 6:00 am madness.

Like Sophie said, last night was crazy. When I got home from work, I walked the girls and talked to our neighbor Liz. She is a dog rescuing machine and really nice/cool, so I told her what happened and asked what she thought. She recommended Rescue Remedy as well, along with anxiety wraps you can buy. I will be talking to my vet about Rescue Remedy asap!

Then of course, storms were brewin' over Indianapolis all night long. We followed some reader advice and had them sleep in our room. Now, this can't be a normal occurance, since 1) there was barely room for their crate and 2) Sophie whined softly for like an hour. Each time we'd stop her by saying "Soophiiie" in a calm voice, but it took us about an hour to get to sleep. I only fell asleep when I heard BOTH pugs snoring.

Around 2:00 am, the storm got really really bad and she was very vocal, and clearly scared. (Dixie was knocked out still.) So, we put on the less-nice bedspread and let her into bed with us. She was very wound up and ran around for about a half hour, then settled on my stomach... yeah, that made it easy to sleep, hahaha. She moved around a lot, and we were up about once every half hour, 20 minutes, due to the storm and/or Sophie. Around 5:00 we let Dixie on the bed too, since we were pretty much awake. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep! Although, less sleep is MUCH better than the alternative- a sad, injured pug.

I must thank all of you for your suggestions! We would not have made it through the stormy night without some busted paws if it wasn't for you all.

To thank you, here are some photos of Sophie hindering my cleaning progress. Thanks for all the dusty pughair, PUGS!

She's thinking, "hmm, this smells like me... it should be MINE."

...and then she stole it right from off the handle!

I am cleaning because tomorrow is Dixie's BARKDAY and we are having a small pawty for her! Don't forget to wish the Bugg a happy 4th Barkday tomorrow!

Oh, and I forgot to suggest for the anxiety ... try a little benedryl. It's perfectly harmless and causes some sedation.

Happy birthday, Dixie! We hope you get lots of treats and pressies!
We're not sure it was suggested yet but have you thought of putting a t-shirt on Sophie while she's in her crate? We've heard good things about this kind of practice for over-anxious dogs.

Love ya lots,

Happy BarkDay Dixie!

Emmitt and I are sending you and Sophie lots of hugs and kisses. Emmitt said he want to add in some pug hair because he has so much to give, but don't worry, I assured him that it is the thought that counts.

Oh that sucks.. I put them both in bed with me before too. Gus is the same way, too excited to sleep. :)
I'm glad her paw is better, poor thing.
My sister does a calming wrap with a tensor bandage... I am not sure how effective it is but I will find out the name for you.
